What is Debating?
• Teams consist of 3 speakers and 1 “Team Advisor” or 4th (silent) speaker
• Debaters have a set time limit for their speeches with the time limit increasing with each year starting at 3 minutes in Year 7
• The general topic area will be given out a few days prior to the debate
• Debate topics however are given to teams just prior to the debate allowing 1 hour for team preparation
• For these unprepared debates a coin is tossed to decide the sides
• The affirmative team always starts the debate
