Evan’s first experience with debating was in Year Four when he cried after losing a debate "that we have too much homework". Four years later he gained the courage to join debating at Sydney Boys and for the next few years consistently made it to the Regional Finals or State Semi-Finals of competitions, and lost. Fortunately his luck changed in Year Twelve when his team (which included Hamish Nairn) won the Hume Barbour State Final. Although he did not win many debates as First Grade, Evan was selected for the CHS First Grade Representative Team.
Evan’s most memorable moment with debating came in 2004 when, after years of treatment, he received the "Coach with the Best Hair" award. Evan is currently studying Economics as a Social Science at Sydney University, doing a double major and Honours in Government. In his spare time he referees GPS First Grade Football and his ambition is to referee international football by the time he’s thirty.
