On Thursday the 20th of November the department of education held a regional SRC conference to make the organisation more active and effective in schools.
Most schools in the Sydney region were represented at the Oatley Senior Campus, the venue for this event. Patrick Desmond was not only representing Sydney High, but also NSW. The main focus of the conference was on how media portrays young people and how media can be used to our advantage. There were a number of workshops on the main ideas of the image of youth in the society, the actions being taken in the community related to youths and problems young people face. The remainder of the day was spent in specific groups, with specific focus area. I was in the groups concerning philanthropic work of schools and how to effectively action plan. These groups were mainly for finding out what other schools were doing and how they were doing it. Many schools are trying to create empathy for the people the funds are being raised for by linking the activities organised on the day to the needs faced by the people. One such idea was to have a bowl of rice day. So instead of a sausage sizzle every person had one bowl of rice. The day was reasonably effective in encouraging the SRC to become more active, but it was highly effective in its presentation of how to put great ideas into practice.

6:00 Monday 8th of September saw a mad rush by SRC committee members to bring together the Sydney High School senior dance replacement, The SRC Trivia Night.
With over two months of conscientious planning by Alex Shapilsky, the man in charge, the Trivia Night comprised of numerous segments. First and foremost was the Trivia. Having made the PowerPoint I can say with utmost authority that the questions were not easy, especially the deciding questions set by Tim Li, the Olympics section. The gates opened at six thirty with Shumin decked out in his pyjamas and Shaun Fletcher and Jamian Vuong in separate costumes as well. They were the waiters of the night. However it was the man of the hour Alex Shapilsky and Varan Perananthan, who kept the event running smoothly with the help of the SRC President, David Nam, and Vice President, Nick Wong with numerous other members and non members helping. Between the trivia and fierce competition there were activities such as Limbo. They were a huge crowd pleaser! There many videos as well which not only humiliated the year 12s present, but also broke the building tension among the teams. The SRC was keen on having no technological hiccups this time. Hence with help of Brendan Leo all computers and projectors worked smoothly, and I managed to make the PowerPoint work luckily at 6:20, because of a late call up. The winning table consisting of Nick Lindeback, Nick Wong, Johnny Lieu, Sam Burnham, Johan Santoso, Christian Katsikaros, Nicky Block, Lucie Aitken, Amy Campbell, Rebecca Dukes, Audrey Won and Margaret Gordon. Well Done! The feedback was incredibly positive. Everyone said it was incredibly enjoyable and that it was a great night. The most popular part was the activities, they were huge fun. It'll definitely happen again next year and we encourage all future yr 10-12s to come. The SRC would like to thank everyone involved who made this event possible and a huge success having earned $630 for youth of the streets! Well done everyone.

Lately there has been a lot of dissatsfaction with the SRC primarily stemming from the organisation of the SRC Dance Off. With any failure by the SRC questions are asked of why it was allowed to be put forward in the first place. Suddenly everyone seems to be distant from any involment. As i was at an art excursion on the day it seemed diffcult to if anybody in the SRC willing to discuss what happened. However they did. Everyone knows basicly what happened, there were a lack of dancers, the music system failed and we were treated to an impromtu striptese. After much digging around many reasons seemed to emerge. Firstly reasons for the music system failing were put forward, as the failure is being attributed to this hitch. There are many theories. Someone proposed there was a power surge, or the wires were snipped. However i believe the problem lay with the lack of dancers. This was mainly due to the badly designed posters. As they were designed by me, I am sorry, but just in case you didn't get tjhem it was meant to be the ipod cover flow. The SRC accepts full responsibility for what happened, however now we need your input. Use the feedback form to send us ideas and ways on which we can improve an event like this. Are there any ideas that you have for events? Lastly I would like to congratulate Christian Katsikorus on his excelent organising and the effort he put in, well done.
