SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 7 – 03/09/18

Trivia Night is next Thursday evening! The event is open to seniors only. Please give your table registration forms (found on the SRC Website) and $80 deposit to Mr The in the Science Staffroom. Posters will be up around the school soon with more information.
The Bucket Hat ballot is still up on the Student Portal. Please vote in this as the more votes we get, the easier it is to get approval from the School Council and High Store. The issue of ethical production of the bucket hats (such as not being made in sweatshops) was raised, and will be further explored depending on the amount of information available to us.
The SRC will also run an SRC stall at Open Day next Thursday as well.

SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 6 – 27/08/18

The Bucket Hats Ballot is up for student to pick their preferred designs and colours! Please vote for your favourite design. This will then be taken to the School Council for approval before going to the High Store. Four designs have been shortlisted.
Thank you to everyone who submitted designs!
Trivia Night is on Thursday 13th of September. You can find registration forms for tables and other further details on the SRC website.

SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 5 – 20/08/2018

Trivia Night will be held this term on Thursday 13th September. Registration forms can be found on the SRC Website, so start getting your tables ready quickly!
We received many designs for bucket hats from many students, and have shortlisted the four designs we thought were best. These will now be put to a school vote, with a ballot hopefully coming on your portal shortly.
Additionally, straws will soon no longer be stocked at the Canteen following this issue being raised at the recent School Council Meeting.
If you have any reasonable suggestions to make students’ lives better, don’t hesitate to tell your SRC representatives!

SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 4 – 13/08/18

Talent Quest was a success, despite some technical difficulties. The SRC now knows what we can do to improve the event next year. Nevertheless we raised a significant sum of money considering tickets were only $2 this year. A huge congratulations to Jared Smith (Year 11) for winning the Talent Quest, and well done to all other competitors! We encourage more people to audition next year!
Trivia Night will be held this term for Seniors only, on the 13th of September. More details will come soon, but posters will be coming up across the school shortly. Seniors can start getting their tables of 10 together. The team form can be found on the SRC website, and this can be handed (along with an $80 deposit) to Mr The. The cost is $150 for a normal table, and $180 for a deluxe table (more food and drinks).
Bucket Hats have made progress this term, with the design competition underway. Check the Student Portal for more details, and please send in your submissions ASAP.
The issue of getting bag hooks on the back of toilet doors has been raised, although the demand for this is not yet known. The SRC will look into this further.
Lastly, the demand for EFTPOS cards for school use has been brought up again. The Canteen recently did a survey on this, and will soon decide on what progress to make in this area.

Bucket Hat Design Competition

The SRC are looking for a Logo design for the new SBHS bucket hats!

Design Parameters:
– Must be related to Sydney Boys High
– No inappropriate symbols/words on the design
– A simple design works best (if the design is too complex or uses too many different colours, the design may get vetoed)

There will be a ballot for students to vote for the best design.
Students also get to vote whether the hat will either be a chocolate brown or blue. Email your designs to sydneyboyshighsrc@gmail.com

GET DESIGNING!!! Submissions close this Friday.

SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 3 – 06/08/18

Talent Quest is this Friday at lunchtime! Come down to the hall and watch the show for only $2! We have a variety of acts, including comedy, music and dance. The SRC hopes to see everyone there!
Trivia Night will be coming later this term, with the SRC Executives already beginning to organise the necessary details of the event. The event is a combined SBHS-SGHS seniors only event, but the night is always fun and enjoyable. There will be prizes available for the best tables.
The SRC has also been notified of a noise complaint regarding SGHS using the canteen during our class times. While they are still allowed to use the canteen (the profits go to us anyway), we will see how we can ensure they do not disturb the surrounding classes.
In addition, the SRC will look into banning plastic straws at the canteen. There is little demand for them currently and this move will be greatly beneficial to the environment.

SRC Minutes – Term 3 Week 2 – 30/07/18

Talent Quest will be held at lunchtime in the Great Hall on Friday in Week 3. There will be a small $2 entry fee at the door. Auditions for Talent Quest are still open and if you would like to participate in this event please email the SRC urgently to organise an audition time. The Year 10 SRC members put up posters across the noticeboards of the school recently, so please make sure you check them out and turn up to see the talent of Sydney Boys next Friday!
We have received details about the design of bucket hats and we are welcoming any designs made by students (must be appropriate) to be sent to the SRC. The more simple the design, the more affordable the bucket hat will be. E.g. A solid single colour (such as a shade of blue or brown) and a small school logo would make an appropriate design. Once designs are sent into the SRC, they will be hand-selected to be put to a school vote. Please get designing!
Trivia Night for Seniors will be held later this term, and the SRC have slowly begun organising it, with questions being written up by various year group members.
There have been concerns raised about juniors using roller bags and the tripping hazard they pose in school corridors. This issue will be raised to higher powers to see what can be done about reducing the weight of school bags. This has previously been a source of concern by many teachers.
The SRC is also looking into having a Ramen Day or Udon Day next term as a means of fundraising.
An idea brought forward by the Year 7 SRCs regarding a house handball competition has received largely positive comments from the SRC. We will look into discussing this with the Prefects so that we can have this tournament organised this term or next term.
