High 5/63 [20] (T. Nassif 21, A. Taing 9*) def by Shore 8/64 [16.2] (Y. Zhou 2/8 [3] A. Wong 2/19 [4] A. Taing 2/17 [3])

High won the toss and elected to bat on what promised to be a very bouncy wicket with long boundaries. Disaster struck early as opening batsmen Ian fell for a platinum duck on the first ball of the match. Finding ourselves at 3/7 early on, the task was once again set for Captain and Vice-Captain Thomas and Peter to bring us to a respectable total. A solid thirty run partnership was made before the tail wagged with spin bowler Anthony making nine runs not out. After setting a low total we knew our fielding had to be tight and bowling needed to be full and accurate. All bowlers were up to the task, taking a multitude of wickets and threatening the opposition right until the end. There was much controversy with two fifty-fifty calls going High’s way and a feeling of euphoria when square leg fielder Anthony took a diving catch that may not be rivalled in the next decade. Results aside, we left the field confident; knowing that we defended our low total well and that if we play that team later in the season, we can win the game.

St Josephs 149 (T. Nassif 3/28 [6] A. Thakur 2/21 [4] M. Liu 2/15 [3]) DEF High 55 (T. Nassif 10)

Sydney High won the toss and elected to bowl. Beginning extremely strongly with an attacking field set and lots of talk, the wickets began to flow quickly as opening bowler Anant took a double wicket maiden in only his third over. Followed shortly by Mike’s two quick wickets, Sydney High were sitting pretty, having Joeys at 5/75 at drinks, an outstanding improvement on our first two games.

With spin pair Thomas and Anthony resuming the bowling, Joeys lost three wickets and if not for the half century made by one of their batsmen, their innings was all but over. Eventually, the Sydney High 5ths reached a personal milestone, steamrolling the St Joseph’s batsmen who were all out in the 29th over. Unfortunately, our batting was not up to par and a game that could well have been ours to win slipped out of reach as our top order crumbled to accurate, full Joeys bowling. Special mentions to bowlers Thomas and Anant on their concise overs; and William Chow for his magnificent fielding which included an extremely difficult take at deep mid-on.
