The first game of the season ended in a close victory for the 16Bs against rivals Sydney Grammar. Having won the toss, and electing to bat we were off to a very shaky start. Our top order having collapsed was rescued by Fayez Alam with his personal top score of 38 runs. Solid batting performances by Saiharan and Denny Fu had also helped to reach a total of 106 runs off 32 overs. When it came to bowling after the break, we had managed to grab 4 wickets in the first 16 overs, with Saiharan falling a single wicket short of a hat trick. At drinks, it seemed very unlikely that we’d be able to defend our total, as the opposition only required a mere 19 runs off 16 overs, and still had 6 wickets in hand. Despite this, a tremendous push by our bowling attack and a newly inspired field had taken wicket after wicket, seizing the win by only a single run, leaving Grammar all out for 105 within 24 overs; a brilliant effort.
