Australian 5 Highs Cricket Carnival – 1st XI
Since 1976, Melbourne High School and Sydney High School have competed for the Cec. Rubie Trophy. This trophy was named after Cec. Rubie, a former Sydney High Pupil and President of the Sydney High Old Boy’s Union. The trophy was contested in December by the school’s 1st XI’s in a two day fixture. In 1981, Sydney High School was celebrating its 75th Anniversary and invited Brisbane State High School to Sydney; Melbourne High School invited Adelaide High School and so the first Interstate Carnival began. In 1983, Adelaide High School invited Perth Modern School to Adelaide to join them in their 75th Anniversary celebrations and this would become the first 5 Highs Cricket Carnival. Kent Street Senior High School became the Perth Representative in 1993. The carnival now involves the five schools playing each other once in 50 over one day matches.
